Fish disease research and the implementation of new vaccines for existing and emerging farmed fish species are crucial to ensuring the future sustainability of the aquaculture industry.   Research and development activities are integrated into all facets of Maine BioTek and represent our spirit of continuous improvement.

Maine BioTek collaborates with other industry, government and academic researchers to integrate the skills and capabilities that reside in a range of disciplines & functions.  Our core competencies include virology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry and microbiology.

Product development at Maine BioTek is supported in part through competitive grants awarded to our company.  Maine BioTek, Inc. has been awarded Small Business Innovation Research Awards from the United States Department of Agriculture (IHNV, ISAV), National Science Foundation (Nodavirus, IHNV) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (L. anguillarum and A. salmonicida in Atlantic cod) as well as grants from the Department of Commerce and Maine Technology Institute.  These funds support research and development of vaccines for the aquaculture industry.
